THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR JAL SHAKTI & SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT

(SHRI RATTAN LAL KATARIA)

(a) to (c) Western Ghats region falls in Zone II,III & IV on the seismic zoning map of India given by

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Dams/reservoirs are designed taking into account the seismic

coefficients as prescribed in the BIS code. Dams/ reservoirs including those in the Western Ghats are

designed taking into account site specific seismic design parameters and approved by National Committee

on Seismic Design Parameters (NCSDP). Instrumental monitoring of local seismicity around major

reservoirs including those along Western Ghats is being continuously done by respective dam authorities.
